Method of Evaluation: Students must achieve a minimum of 70% final average and must be in attendance 100% of the mandatory 2 day clinical in order to pass competencies. Students must be in proper attire (any color scrubs, closed-toe shoes, properly groomed)

Expectations for taking this course: Homework assignments will be submitted and quizzes will be taken by the student.
During the course, there will be lab skills activities, and a mandatory 2-3 days at a clinic to practice your skills. The National Certification exam is included in this course. This is included in the tuition

This program is self-paced and open enrollment, so you can start when you want and finish at your own pace.

Externship – Additional Externships are available to you. It is a 40-hour clinical externship for $400. The additional 40-hour clinical externships are available once you have completed the Training course. The 40 externship hours are not included in this training. Please contact Dr. Miller when you are ready to register for the 40- hour-externship. The educational objective of this clinical externship gives students the chance to spend up to 40 hours in diverse settings and practice hands-on skills. *Clinical Externships start twice a month in 36 states on the 1st and the 15th.

Detailed Course Topics Covered
The student will perform any or all of the following skills while working with their preceptor and floor staff:
  • Skill development in the performance of a variety of blood collection methods using proper techniques and standard precautions. Includes vacuum collection devices, syringes, capillary skin puncture, butterfly needles and blood culture, and specimen collection on adults. 
  • Responsibilities of the clinical medical assistant and introduction to healthcare facilities
  • Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, circulation of the heart and blood vessels
  • Care & safety of patients, medical & legal aspects of care, confidentiality and HIPAA
  • Effective verbal and non-verbal communication, interpersonal skills and human behavior
  • Aseptic techniques, infection prevention, universal precautions, proper use and disposal of biohazards and sharps
  • Documenting patient medical histories, updating patient medical files, vital signs and documentation
  • Appling sterile dressings, preparing patients for x-rays, performing various injections, administering oral medications, instructing patients on the proper usage of medications
  • Phlebotomy, venipunctures and capillary sampling, collecting specimens and point of care testing
  • Performing 12 lead EKGs and EKG strip analysis (P,Q,R,S,T wave form)
The Clinical Medical Assisting Profession

The NCTI Clinical Medical Assisting program is designed to prepare students for a rewarding career in an exciting environment and function as professionals in multiple healthcare settings such as medical office's, clinic's, HMO's or other health care setting. Medical assistants with a clinical background perform various clinical tasks including assisting with the administration of medications and with minor procedures, performing an EKG electrocardiogram, obtaining laboratory specimens for testing, educating patients, and other related tasks. The Clinical Medical Assisting Program at NCTI

The purpose of the Clinical Medical Assisting program is to prepare students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical aspects of a medical office.

This course covers the following key areas and topics:

Students in NCTI's Clinical Medical Assistant program learn:
  • Clinical responsibilities of the medical office – assisting the physician with patient related care
  • Preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine procedures and diagnostic testing; and many other important responsibilities
  • HIPAA, patient confidentiality, legal aspects of healthcare and regulatory patient care issues
  • Recording and taking of vital signs, blood pressure, medical histories, and other patient care items related to the physician office visit
  • Review and administration of medications, allergies and other pharmacology related items
  • Laboratory procedures, phlebotomy and the proper techniques required to collect specimens for laboratory analysis
  • Cardiology and the proper placement of leads when taking a 12 lead EKG

Program graduates receive a Certificate of Completion in Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy & EKG Training, which—can get them an entry-level job as a Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist or EKG technician. Students are also eligible to sit for the National Exam to become a certified medical assistant, phlebotomist, or EKG technician.

Most states regulate the duties that Medical assistants are allowed to perform through licensure, registration or certification. Medical Assistant Certification is an acknowledgment of a medical assistant’s qualifications and professional competence and may be an asset when seeking employment.
